Immigrant Deaths Partly the Result of Poor Care

Poor medical care offered to undocumented immigrants in detention has resulted in the death of seven immigrants. This is according to the reports from two human rights groups, Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC) and Human Rights Watch (HRW). The findings claim that the immigrants in detention are not being given adequate medical attention.

Texas Bans Sanctuary Cities

Governor of Texas Greg Abbott has signed a new measure into law, banning sanctuary cities in Texas. Cities are banned from calling themselves sanctuary cities. Local law enforcement officials are now forced to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and hold criminal immigrant suspects for deportation.

US Look for Criminal Haitian Immigrants

While the Trump administration has yet not decided about extending humanitarian protections for immigrants from Haiti, immigration officials are looking for information related to criminal Haitian immigrants. Immigration officials are looking to receive crime data and information on the benefits Haitian immigrants are currently receiving from Temporary Protected Status.

US School District to Protect Undocumented Immigrants

The Los Angeles Unified School Board, that runs America’s second-biggest school system, is taking steps to protect undocumented students and families from federal immigration officials. The school board has passed a resolution reaffirming their refusal to allow immigration authorities into school campuses.

Major ICE Anti-Gang Operation Arrests Mainly US Citizens

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested more than 1300 people in the largest anti-gang operation ever undertaken in the U.S. This operation ran for around six weeks. Out of the 1300 people who were arrested, 933 were those with U.S. citizenship.

US Firm Offers Golden US Visa to Indians

U.S. Immigration Fund is now targeting wealthy Indians with the EB-5 visa also known as the ‘Golden Visa’. Read more about this program that promises a quicker way for foreign nationals to gain U.S. citizenship.
